What's New In Jess' . . . Make Up Drawers | MUA & Skincare

Hello my lovelies,

As promised, part 2 of my haul, what new bits and bobs are in my make up drawers?
Have a read, don't be tempted to shop!

Me and my friend took a spontaneous trip to the local shopping mall and we stopped off at Superdrug and had a rather long look around.
I was trying to decide on a foundation but I wasn't sure what to go for so I came to a conlusion that I'd come another day when I have more time and have a thorough look around. The Revlon ColorStay is a strong contender right now!

But these are the bits I left with!

MUA Pro - Base Complexion Kit - Mocha

First up is a concealer palette. I love MUA's concealing kits, I swear by the one I bought a while back and it's part of my daily make up routine. As it's starting to come to an end, it was only right to buy another one, ready for use.
I bought the larger size which comes with a sponge and little brush which I'll be making good use of. This kit was £6 which is a bargain because it lasts forever!

Superdrug Deep Action 2 in 1 Detoxifying Cream Wash & Mask

Next is a skincare product. Superdrug have their own brand of skincare products and I'm glad I went in with an open mind and bought the scrub. As I was on the hunt for a moisturiser, I came across this beauty which is a cream wash that can also be doubled up as mask. It was £2.59 which is how I much I paid for the scrub, totally worth it. Superdrug are also doing 2 for £4 on their skincare line at the moment.
I've tried it once already and I quite like the way it feels on my skin so keep a look out for a full review in the near future.

MUA Colour Blast Eyeshadow Tint - Unfaithful

Who doesn't love free stuff? Superdrug are doing an offer where if you spend £6 or more on MUA, you get a free eye shadow tint. It's usually £3 so I couldn't snap it up quick enough. I've seen quite a few reviews on this baby but I've always been to lazy to actually go and buy it so I used this opportunity to get one. I chose a brown shade which I'll get good use out of, I hope.

MUA Nail Polish - Pistachio Ice Cream

You all know those unnecessary purchases, this nail polish was one of them.
I love MUA nail polishes but I just didn't need another one, I currently have Shellac on my nails so I can't paint my nails and I will be getting gel done soon so I guess this beautiful nail polish will have to sit and be patient. It's only £1, you can't go wrong to be honest and it's a lovely shade too.

Save the boring item until last, cotton pads. My mum constantly complains about me using the household cotton wool to take off my make up so I just thought it'd be nice to have my own cotton pads and be able to use them without any complaints, it was 99p so why not.

Hope you guys liked the bits I bought, are there any things you've bought from Superdrug recently?
I'd love to know, thanks for reading and I hope you're all well, March tomorrow!

What's New In Jess' . . . Closet | Blazers & Trainers

Hey guys,

Missed me? haha! I've been crazily busy this last week, blogging has had to take a seat in the back I'm afraid.
I have all my posts planned for the week to come, photograph the images for the posts, it's just finding the time to sit down and type.

I thought I'd do a mini haul to ease back into blogging. As you guys know, my new haul series is called 'What's New In Jess'. . . ' and it could either be closet, make up drawers or my room.

Today it's closet, I've split up my haul into 3 parts so tomorrow is make up drawers (exciting!)

I'm a huge lover of trainers and I buy a new pair at least every month and a half so saying that I purchased another pair of basketball trainers.
They were on sale in Sports Direct and I couldn't leave without them. I have the same type but in black and white so I definitely knew what I was adding to collection, I just couldn't help but have another in a different colour. You girlies know how it is!

My lovely mama gave in to my request of black blazers and bought two amazing ones.
The first one is a long linen boyfriend blazer, I'm in love with it. I've had it for about 2 weeks and I've worn it about 5 times now, it's just an amazing staple piece to have in the wardrobe. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where she bought it from but I've found ones similar on eBay and ASOS!

The second blazer is a fitted one. It's from French Connection and I also love it. I wore it to the LOVE event which I showed in an OOTD.
I love the fit of it, it's not too tight and it's definitely flattering. And the shoulders are amazing, random but amazing!

So that's my mini haul for you guys, definitely keep your eyes peeled for tomorrow's haul and the mystery 3rd part!

It's feels good to be back, blogging!

NOTD | Raspberry Lovin'

Barry M Nail Paint - Raspberry 273

Hello lovelies,

I haven't done a NOTD in ages but when I stumbled across this beauty, I had to share it with you all.
I now work part time in a beauty salon, so hairdressing, nails and massage are all there for me to play with.

One of my colleagues offered to paint my nails in an exchange for a full make up look so I said why not!
There were a million and one brands and shades to choose from so I went with the trusty Barry M and then I chose a colour I'd be comfortable with.

So I sat in the 'special chair' and she filed at my nails, slightly changing the shape of them, which I love.
When she started to apply the nail polish, we both couldn't stop saying 'this is an amazing colour!'

When she finished, I quickly snapped up the nail polish so it wouldn't get lost in the pile and took pictures.
30 mins later, my colleague was painting her nails in the same shade haha she said 'I can't leave here without painting my nails this colour!' I don't blame her!

I got them done on Tuesday and it's started chipping this morning (Fri) so it didn't last very long, even with a top coat. I think it's because I've been doing hair and dipping my hands in water constantly.

I love this nail polish, I need it in my collection, what do you guys think of it?
You like? haha

Topic 3 | Tartan | #FashionFebruary

Trousers  Zara

Hey guys,

Due to being super busy, I missed last week's fashion February post so I thought why not blog now.
Yes, I'm definitely getting used to this late night blogging!

This week's topic is Tartan. I must say I wasn't a fan of my school kilt which was absolutely horrid and I hated it. However when the tartan trend emerged, I was number one fan, navy and bottle green tartan being my favourites.
When you see something from a different perspective, you'll be surprised at how much you can like or dislike something.

I've put together a 'tartan' outfit I think would be amazing for Spring. I love the high waisted trousers from River Island, paired with a bralet and bright orange heeled sandals. And you can't go wrong with a camel boyfriend coat. Would you wear the outfit I put together?

I think tartan is still going to be a huge trend this Spring, all the fashionistas out there are going to find amazing ways to wear it. I, for one, can't wait for Spring and all the amazing trends that'll be popping up.

Are you guys a fan of the tartan trend? What tartan pieces did you 'invest' in?
I'd love to know and thanks for reading!

London Fashion Week A/W14 | Round Up

Hello everyone,

If you missed my round up of New York Fashion Week, make sure you check it out!

Onto London. LFW is by far my favourite, not just because I've lived in London all life but because London fashion is so diverse. You can express your personality through your style and no one would give you a second look (maybe a stare at first!) London is full of different cultures, anything goes really!

Now my top 5!

First up is my all time favourite designer, David Koma. The reason why I love DK so much is because he inspires me so much as an aspiring designer. I'm more likely to draw out a collection based on one of his outfits than to say 'I want that dress'. Also, his collection always look so strong and powerful, love it!

Mazhar is a new one for me, I didn't really pay attention to him last season but this season I couldn't help but notice.
I love the way the models look, they look so urban and so not girly. I'm a huge fan, I definitely think that this collection is a love it or hate it.

My college tutor told me to look out for Holly Fulton this season because I might like what she does and guess what? I clearly love it! I love the simplicity of her collections, the pastels softened the amazing prints and the silhouettes are so flattering.

Another new designer for me, I've definitely been more open minded to designers I don't usually pay attention to. I love the oversized tees and coats and simple prints. I also really love the colour palette, simple but effective.

Lastly is KTZ. Another one of my favourite designers, love this season's collection. The prints are amaaaaazing, the first outfit, I need in my wardrobe ASAP. There's definitely a boyish aspect to this collection and I really like that.

What have been your favourites from LFW? Do we have any similarities?
I'd love to know!

OOTD | Team Hustle

Hoodie Punky Fish (old) | Pinafore New Look | Coat Primark
Shoes Nike Team Hustle D6 Basketball Trainers

 Hi guys,

It has been such a long day, it's 20 mins to midnight and I'm just getting time to blog. Crazy right?

I thought I'd share an OOTD with you guys today. With this outfit, I thought I'd try something different. A hoodie under a pinafore with a boyfriend coat on top. It felt so weird to wear a hoodie without anything underneath haha first time for everything eh?

I can't remember where I saw something similar to this outfit but I was inspired and wanted to try it out and I think it works.
I think it's a great way to layer up and a great way to include the dresses, pinafores etc. into your winter outfits.

You guys know me, always got my trainers on, these are a new pair which I'll be showing close up in a future post!

Hope you guys like my 'experimental' outfit. It's now 20 mins to 1am, it took me an hour to write this post.
Boy, I'm tired!

Thanks for reading!

What's New In Jess' . . . Room | Mannequin

Buy here

Finally, finally, I've purchased a mannequin.

I'd been itching to buy one but couldn't bring myself to invest in one even though I knew I needed it. I searched through eBay, Amazon, all sorts but I just couldn't trust it.

As the half term break drew nearer, I knew I would need a mannequin for my final piece so I went over to my eBay watch list and had a thorough read of the reviews, noticing that the seller I 'd bought mine from had 99.8% positive feedback I thought I'd go ahead and buy it.

So I took, what I thought was a risk and purchased it. I'm a huge eBay fan but this was the one thing I struggled to pay for, I'm not sure why haha

I paid £28.95 for a size 12 mannequin. It's all white, wooden and can be adjusted in height from 56" to 66". It has a polystyrene body which you can pin in to etc., it also came with a chrome post, white thistle top and tripod base. I love the fact that it has a jersey cover which you can remove and wash if you need to.
It arrived at my house in 2 DAYS! That made me so happy, to see that it was inside my house, ready to open and use when I came back from college made me the happiest person alive.

I've already started my final piece on it, I'm definitely going to be putting it to good use!

I'm currently catching up on LFW and getting ready to cook some din-dins for the family.

I hope everyone's well and thanks for reading!

New York Fashion Week A/W14 | Round Up

Hello my loves,

New York fashion week is done and dusted and now the attention is on London!

London is my favourite fashion week however this season New York have upped their game for me, there are so many collections I loved. I found it so hard to pick out only 5 but I managed to. I'd love to know what your favourites were from NYFW. I'm still going to mention that Monique Lhuillier, Oscar de la Renta, DKNY and Badgley Mischka all had amazing collections.

First up is my love from last season, BCBG Max Azria.
Everything about this collection I love, the shapes, the prints, the fabrics, the colours, the styling, ev-er-y-thing! If my wardrobe was full of these clothes, I'd be over the Moon, Venus and Neptune.

Rebecca Minkoff is a new one for me, I love the edginess of her collection this season.
I think this collection is very me, I could see myself wearing all these outfits, I'd make it werrrrkk! *flips hair*

Shoji is another new one, this collection was definitely a 'beautiful' collection.
The elegance of this collection was eye-catching, going to be keeping an eye out for Tadashi Shoji next season!

I love Vera Wang, her wedding dresses are so amazing. With this season's collection, I loved how she mixed hard fabrics with soft fabrics and managed to pack in a whole load of trends in one collection.

Now, what goes on Zac Posen's head? How does he create such beautiful garments? I remember Oscar de la Renta's collection from the past seasons where he created these voluminous gowns that looked absolutely gorgeous. These dresses by Posen have topped them by far, I sat staring at my screen in amazement when I saw the first dress. His collection as a whole was executed so well.

That is my round up of New York Fashion Week, I hope you guys liked it!
What is your favourite from my top 5? I'd love to know!

Thanks for reading and don't forget to read my little update.

LITTLE UPDATE.

Hey everyone,

Just thought I'd update you all on what's been going with me.

One of my main new year's resolutions was to get organised and I'm absolutely failing. I wouldn't say I'm failing in general but blog-wise I'm failing miserably.
Obviously my education has to come first and that's what I've been doing, I've been getting my portfolio up to scratch for uni interviews and trying to make my final piece for a project. On top of that, my tutor has informed us all that we have to start thinking up ideas for our final major project, exciting but stressful.

Today, I sat at my sewing machine and sewed my life away, I managed to get a garment done from scratch which is a mega achievement as I get bored quick and give up on things when I get tired.
It's quite late now but I'm not tired and the creative wires seem to be going crazy, up inside my brain which is annoying for my sister who doesn't care about what I have to say at this time of the night whilst she's trying to sleep haha

I've been using my blog schedule a lot to help me plan out posts for the next couple of weeks which is really helpful at this time of the year where I've got so much going on at once.

I've also got a few personal projects coming up soon that I can't wait to share with you all, one's a styling gig which is super fun at the moment and the other's a little modelling thing so I'll definitely keep you all posted and show you bits and pieces of what I'm up to.

I'm not a huge Valentine's Day fan but I hope everyone had a good one, I can't wait to get back into the swing of blogging now I'm on half term break, I've got so much I want to get out there!

Also, because the blogging community is the most helpful community, I'd really love to invest in a new camera very soon so if any of you have suggestions on what would be a good one to get, let me know!

Thanks for reading and feel free to tweet me (@JesslynJuly) or email me (fashionsquash96@gmail.com), I'm always quick to respond even when I'm not around on the blog.

Hope you're all well!

LOVE Blogger Event | OOTD

Blazer French Connection | Dress LOVE* | Boots eBay | Watch eBay | Jewellery (mix of Primark, eBay and sister's jewellery ;) )

*the last 4 pictures are not my own*

Blazer French Connection | Dress LOVE* | Boots eBay | Watch eBay | Jewellery (mix of Primark, eBay and sister's jewellery ;) )

Hey everyone,

It feels like ages since I last blogged, I'm currently putting together a mood board for a stylist project I'm helping out with and it's quite fun, I must say.
I've spent my day running around my end of London, fabric hunting. Thankfully, I found the exact fabrics I was looking for and for great prices too. I also had to run to WH Smith just before it closed because I needed to buy a A3 display folder for my portfolio, only the Lord knows how I made it before it closed!

Well, enough about my day! Some of you may know, I was invited to LFA LOVE blogger event which I was truly excited about as I love LOVE (love love haha!) and they sell amaaaaaaaaaaaaazing things over on their site InLoveWithFashion
So me being me, I turned up late but luckily I hadn't missed much. I was very nervous, I went on my own and I was late, nothing worse than that. I was greeted by tons of smiles, everyone I made eye contact gave me a grin and it made me feel at ease. I hung my coat up, got my camera out and started having a look at the LOVE Spring/Summer collection. Seeing the collection made me so excited for Spring, there were some powder blue (my new favourite colour!) pieces, some peach pieces, some mint green pieces and some floral pieces. I seriously cannot wait to get my hands on some of the pieces I set my eyes on that day.

By the way, when I said 'I got my camera out', after the event I got home to discover that there was no memory card in the camera which absolutely ****** me off and I couldn't find the USB wire for my camera which was quite depressing. *sighhhhhhh*

Anywhooo . . .
After having a look at the collection and the sale rack, the LOVE team called us over so they could do their talks. Both Coco and Sophie gave inspirational talks about how they came to be at LOVE and how you can do anything you want if you strive for it. Guest speaker, Naomi from Two Shoes, One Pair spoke about how she keeps up with blog and what's like to be the other half of a blogging duo. She gave us tips on how to expand our blogs and how to use our blogs to get out there.

After the talks, I was approached by a couple other bloggers who were all so lovely! Everyone seemed so surprised I was 17, I felt so young haha
I even had an lovely girl named Dillon (LiveLaughLipgloss) touch my hair and compliment my eyebrows, I spoke to her and her friend Funto for ages. We discovered we were all doing the same course and we all planned to do the same course at university, strange but cool stuff!

I had an amazing time, I even received a £50 voucher which I can't wait to spend so you'll definitely be seeing some new LOVE pieces here on FashionSquash.
I'm looking forward to working with LOVE in the future, it's such an amazing brand and the team behind it are even more amazing!

Thanks LOVE team!

The Battle | Lipsticks vs Lip Lacquers

Hello everyone,

A while back, I started a series called 'The Battle' which is basically me comparing 2 items in the same category and coming to a conclusion of what's best. (Click here for the previous post)

Today's battle is lipsticks versus lip lacquers.

I have the Nivea Lipstick in Aubergine and MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Kooky which I'm going to be comparing.

First up is the Nivea Lipstick. I never knew Nivea did lipsticks but I found this little gem at a make up stall inside my local shopping centre. It was around £3 which is a major bargain for such an amazing colour.
When I first wore it, I wore it without a lip liner and it didn't last very long on the lips and I found myself re-applying several times throughout the day which didn't make me happy. The next time I decided that to make this lipstick work, using a lipliner would be a big help so I did and voila! There was a big difference.
It lasted much longer and only had to re-apply twice, max.

Next is the MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Kooky. I love this product, I wear it every now and then and I always get asked where it's from, most are surprised when I say MUA. Not sure why?! I think I paid either £2.50 or £3 for it and it's definitely a bargain. I always make sure I moisturise my lips before wearing because it dries matte and can be quite drying. It last ages, I only ever apply it again once, if that.
It's very pigmented and I love the frosted glass packaging!
The only downside is that sometimes it transfers and other times it doesn't, I don't think it's supposed to which is quite annoying but it isn't anything major.

swatches

In this case, I think the lip lacquer wins this battle. It lasts longer, it's more pigmented and everyone loves a matte lip. The nivea lipstick is a good lipstick however it doesn't last as long as the lip lacquer and I have to apply a lip liner to make it stay on longer!

So what do you guys think a lipstick or a lip lacquer? I'd love to know!

Thanks for reading!
