Applying Eyeshadow For Hooded Eyelids | FashionSquash's Helping Hand | Beauty Series

Hello!

This is the second post of the beauty series (click here if you missed the first post and here if you missed the explanation post) and it's a eye shadow tutorial for those that have hooded eyelids. Hooded eyelids can be a pain but why not rock it with some killer eye shadow?

Superdrug Blending Brush

w7 Angled Eyeliner Brush

Real Techniques Detailer Brush

MUA Glamour Nights Palette - Shade 3, 4, 11

MUA Undressed Palette - Shade 5

Maybelline FIT Me Foundation 315 Soft Honey (not pictured, sorry!)

1. Apply a primer or a base colour all over the lid.
 

2. Using an eye shadow brush, apply shade 11 from the inner corner to two thirds of the lid.
 

3. Using shade 3, gently pat it onto the outer edge of the lid.
 

4. Without adding anymore eye shadow onto the brush, blend the eye shadow upwards and into the crease of the lid.
 

5. Using shade 5, blend out shade 3 into the brow bone to make sure there isn't any harsh lines.
 

6. With the detailer brush, apply shade 4 from the tear duct to about a third of the bottom lash line.
 

7. Using concealer (or a lighter foundation), follow your bottom lash line upwards and draw a line with the concealer and blend it out.
 

8. This is the stage where you would add some liquid eyeliner. (I didn't because I wanted the eye shadow to be the focus!)
 

9. Put some mascara on or eyelashes (or both!) whatever you prefer!

And there you have it, some lovely eye shadow!

Tips

Don't do too much crease work because once you open your eyes, it's going to be hidden.

Applying lots of mascara or lashes can help open up the eyes.

Concealing upwards from the lash line also helps lift the eyes.

Applying a bright colour eye shadow on the bottom lash line open up the eyes too, white eyeliner is also great.

Making It Big In Fashion

 

Hello everyone!

Yesterday I attended the Making It Big In Fashion event, it was held at Google Campus and  it was an event full of inspiration and networking.

 

There were a lot of inspirational speakers that gave us insight on the fashion industry.

 

Emile Carr, founder of Emile London spoke about his journey and the choices he had to make to become a fashion designer.

 

Yetunde and Jennifer, the two lovely ladies that created a fashion consultancy called Omi Api, they spoke to us and showed us what they do. I clearly remember them saying that their favourite part of providing their services was 'customer satisfaction', which is something to take away with you because they get their joy by helping others.

 

Managing director from Push PR, Emma Hart spoke about taking the plunge and to keep delving into different things until you find the right thing for you, don't do anything that you don't want to be doing. If it's your dream, go for it!

 

 

Debbie Shasanya who is an editorial assistant and also deals with fashion production told us about how she left the job she was doing to pursue a career in fashion and got to the top and ways to make yourself stand out among others when applying for jobs within the fashion industry.

She also gave us a breakdown of her day at work.

 

Fashion recruitment advisor, Leon Wenham, gave us great advice on what he looks for when recruiting. He also expressed how important personal grooming was and how different companies can be very specific when recruiting people and that not everyone could be the right person for that particular position.

 

Lastly Nicholas Dex, founder of ODF Clothing and Rip the Runway UK, spoke about his journey and how he started with something small but had to think about the future and decided to expand his business. He also said how he likes to use normal people to promote his business as it would be normal people that would buying from him, which I love because it's true.

Just do what you've got to do to make it. 'Have no shame, have game' is what he said!

 

From this event, I took away this advice with me:

 

-Take the plunge, don't be afraid to take risks.

 

-Work for free! Most companies look for people that have experience.

 

-Make yourself presentable.

 

-Don't do, what doesn't make you happy.

 

There was also an exhibition from Proverbs31 Jewellery, Diva Juwels, Kende Fashion, Caramel Rock Academy and Earle of Cakes.

 

 

I was really inspired at this event by all the guest speakers, a little bit of advice from each person has stuck with me and I'm grateful that I was able to attend to also speak to others about their success with their business.

Graduate Fashion Week - Video

Back in June, I attended the Graduate Fashion Week event, I did a post about my experience and also an OOTD. However, I never got round to editing the video of all the clips I filmed from the fashion shows.

Hey everyone!

 

I was nominated by Kelly from DayDreams DaisyChains for the Liebster Award. I've actually done this already but I love Kelly's blog and wanted to answer her questions so I thought why not! However, I'll not being nominating and asking the questions again, just hop over to my first one!

 

Here are her questions for me to answer!

 

 

1) What's your favourite part of blogging?

I love taking the pictures for my post, it's quite a huge part of a post and I really enjoy photography.

Communicating with other bloggers is also a favourite part of blogging, just being able to interact with others that understand what you're on about is great.

 

2) Do you have favourite bloggers or do you change who to read daily?

I change all the time, I think it depends on what I want to read, sometimes I can be on a hunt for reviews and hauls before going on a shopping trip or OOTD's for outfit inspiration.

 

3) What's your favourite food?

I love me some Chinese takeaway, there was a point in my life where I was craving and eating it daily. Really bad, I know.

 

4) Sun or Rain?

It depends really. If I'm going out, I definitely want some sun, if I'm just chilling at home, blogging, I don't mind a little bit of rain.

 

5)What would be the one thing you change about your life right now?

Right now? Probably the fact that I don't have a stable job, babysitting is great but I'd definitely prefer to be doing something more mind challenging.

 

 6) What would be the one thing about your life you keep the same?

My family. They're very supportive, they can be a pain at times but I couldn't imagine life without them.

 

 7) If you could describe your fashion taste in three words, what words would you choose?

Smart, comfortable and sporty. Strange combination I know but I make it work haha

 

8) If you could only drink one drink for the rest of your life what would it be? 

Strawberry flavoured water. 1.5L of that stuff in my system everyday for the rest of my life would be great, absolutely great!

 

9) What's you're ultimate none perfume related smell?

I'm going to sound like such a weirdo if I don't already but petrol. I love the smell of petrol, I don't what it is about it but it just smells so good!

 

10) What is your least favourite part of making yourself beautiful in the morning? 

My hair. Takes forever to do and it feels like a chore, wish I could just get ready without having to do my hair.

 Hello lovely people,

 It was my birthday about 2 weeks ago, as I am getting 'old' as my parents would say, most of my family had no idea what to get me and I hadn't really given them any hints either.

So giving money was probably the easiest option for them.

After being on a shopping ban for about a month and half until my birthday, I needed to go shopping.

 I was having serious withdrawal symptoms, walking into Superdrug, looking at different palettes and brushes then having to put it down with the help of someone snatching it from my hand and putting it back, it was so painful.

I always prefer to shop on a weekday as shops are always quieter making it easier to shop. I always seem to have some type of altercation when I shop because someone always seems to push my last button after having my feet stepped on and my bag knocked about.

My first purchase was a phone. The blackberry bold 9900. My previous phone was on its last legs, I'd had it for about 3 years and didn't want to give it up. As it was my birthday, I realised that I really needed to get a new one.

The real techniques brush were on my wish list for ages, so I decided to stop off at Boots and get them.
I originally wanted the Dusk til Dawn eye shadow palette by MUA but they didn't have it in all the Superdrugs I went in to, so opted for the Glamour Nights palette, which also has great colours.
After being a bit annoyed that I couldn't find the palette that I wanted, I also realised that they didn't have the Sleek contour kit, not to mention, I lost a felt tip eyeliner, I'd just bought from another Superdrug. I eventually purchased it from my local hair shop that have Sleek counters.

 I did quite a few Primark trips, mostly to get a few clothing items. I fell in love with the floral textured skirt, when I saw it I started planning outfits in my head haha
As I'm planning for a/w because I can't wait, I purchased a beanie, shoe liners and a thermal mug, the thermal mug that wouldn't let me leave Primark!

I love Beauty Base in Westfield, Stratford because of LA Colours! From their lipsticks to their palettes, you just can't go wrong if they're £1! Keeping with the a/w shopping theme, I decided to get a deep red lipstick and a plum lip liner. The palette was a random purchase as I wanted a palette that had colours that I wouldn't usually wear.

Hey hey!

July is my birthday month and producing this lust list was so hard because there was so much stuff I'd been lusting over to get for my birthday.
Some stuff I've already purchased e.g frilly socks but I thought I would add it anyway.

I've been wanting a bunch of beanies for the longest time but I always wear my hair up so it seems pointless to buy so many but this A/W, I'm going to change up my hair and give it a bit of a break and that's where the beanies come in handy. I guess...

Printed trousers. It's taken me forever to like really like a pair of printed trousers but the polka dot pair from New Look really appealed to me whilst I was on the site.

If you've been reading my blog from more or less the beginning, you'd know that I love bows (my header had a bit fat bow in it), when I saw this necklace I fell in love almost immediately, doesn't it look so beautiful?
The pinafore playsuit was something I saw in the New Look store but I ended up getting the black pinafore, when I saw it in the sale, I loved it even more. It's very summery, even though my aim is to buy stuff I can wear throughout winter too,  I'd probably wear it during winter anyway haha

I love frilly socks. The way I've seen different fashionistas styling them lately makes me want to have a frilly socks collection. I think frilly socks are a hit or miss but with the right styling skills they could look amazing!

Recently, I've been thinking a lot about A/W because I feel like summer is going to be over soon, so a dark lipstick has been on my mind, either a dark purple or red or both is needed...umm right now.
